Atoms and Ions

Atoms are essentially the building blocks of reality on a fundamental level. Every physical object you can see(and even not see) is composed of an atrociously high number of atoms. In fact, they're so small that scientists have to use a different framework to analyze them, known as quantum mechanics. Treating atoms like macroscopic physical objects simply won't cut it given how small they are.

An ion, as you'll later see, is an atom that is stripped of one or more electrons. If this doesn't make sense, that's alright. You can head over to the page on atomic structure to learn more.
