In Greek myth, Cassiopeia is the name of the queen of Aethiopia. According to legend, she was placed into the stars as a constellation by Poseidon after boasting to him that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, sea nymphs who often accompany Poseidon and help out sailors.

Much of the Milky Way runs through Cassiopeia, with the region containing many open clusters and nebulae. There are numerous emission nebulae that can also be found within this specific region of Cassiopeia, along with many heavily ionized gas formations also taking form.
