Above is an artist's impression of TrES-2b. If you can barely see the image, that's the point!

TrES-2b is an exoplanet that is 750 light-years away. This planet is the darkest known exoplanet, reflecting less than 1% of all light that comes across it. It is now also believed to be orbiting a binary star system(a system where two stars orbit each other).

It isn't entirely known why TrES-2b is so dark. At first, scientists believed that there might be lots of substances in the upper atmosphere which absorb light, like vaporized sodium, potassium, or gaseous titanium oxide. However, all of these substances are fairly heavy and it wouldn't make sense as to why there's an abundance of heavy material in the upper atmosphere of the planet.
